Vila Autodromo x RJ Mayor
So many social and political changes are happening in Brazil right now. After a year and a half in NY, I decided to come back and follow closely all those changes (and social problems) I couldn't see from far away.
With the Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro is being transformed in a construction site, with the mayor Eduardo Paes running a battle against those who fight evictions - evictions, sometimes going against the law and benefitting luxury hotels instead of guaranteeing the right of living.
This past week I had the opportunity to visit one of the communities threatened by the Olympic Park constructions and shoot a protest they did - blocking one of the entrances of the construction site as well as the road in front of it. Vila Autódromo, a favela settled since the 60's, in Barra da Tijuca, has around 60 remaining properties - from 600.
They hope to guarantee their right to stay in their own houses even with all the threats they've been receiving.
